From Europe
Qatar via DOH and Emirates via DXB are the primary and most reliable options with direct SEZ flights. Turkish via IST is competitive from Eastern Europe. Ethiopian via ADD can be the cheapest but has longer total journey time.
Seychelles is one of the most remote tropical destinations on earth — and one of the most expensive to reach when you get the dates wrong. SEZ is the only international gateway, Gulf carriers dominate, and dry-season (Dec–Apr) demand from Europe drives extreme seasonality. This guide shows you exactly when and how to book for the best value.
Seychelles sits in the middle of the Indian Ocean with limited long-haul capacity. The vast majority of visitors arrive on Qatar or Emirates via their Gulf hubs. When European winter escape season (Dec–Apr) overlaps with good diving weather, airlines have very little incentive to discount.
The opposite is true in the shoulder and early wet season. May–June and September–October see dramatically lower demand. Rain showers are usually short, diving remains world-class, and many resorts drop rates 30–50%. Travelers who accept these months routinely pay 35–55% less on airfare than December–March travelers.
Inter-island travel (seaplane, ferry, domestic flight to Praslin or La Digue) adds another layer of cost that must be factored in from day one. The cheapest airfare to SEZ can become expensive once you add transfers to the outer islands.
All international flights arrive at Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) on Mahe. From there you must transfer to Praslin, La Digue, or other islands by short domestic flight (Air Seychelles), seaplane (very scenic, expensive), or ferry.
The sole international airport. Direct flights from Doha, Dubai, Istanbul, Addis, Nairobi, and seasonal Europe. Compact terminal with quick immigration for most arrivals.
Domestic flight SEZ–PRI ~15–20 min. Seaplane 20–45 min (stunning but $150–350+ pp one-way). Ferry to Praslin ~1h then La Digue 15–30 min. Book transfers early in peak season.
| Route | Domestic flight | Seaplane | Ferry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mahe (SEZ) → Praslin | $70–110 one-way | $180–280 | ~$55–70 + taxi |
| Praslin → La Digue | — | $80–130 | $15–25 + short taxi |
| Time (typical) | 15–25 min + ground | 20–45 min door-to-door | 1h+ ferry + connections |
Many travelers base on Mahe for 2–3 nights (beaches + Victoria) then move to Praslin or La Digue. Booking the inter-island leg at the same time as the long-haul ticket often secures better availability and sometimes better pricing.

Seychelles has two main seasons: dry (Dec–Apr, northwest monsoon, calmer seas on the north and west coasts) and wet/shoulder (May–Nov, southeast trade winds, better conditions on the east and south). Airfare follows European holiday demand more than local rain.
Dry season, perfect for beach holidays. Peak European winter escape demand. Fares 40–70% above shoulder. Book 4–5 months ahead.
Best value windows. Lower demand, good diving, manageable rain. Many resorts discount heavily. Excellent time for nature and honeymoon travelers on a budget.
Southeast trade winds, rougher seas on some coasts. Lowest airfares of the year. Great for diving (some sites better) and birdwatching.
| Month | Fare index | Weather | Booking note |
|---|---|---|---|
| December–April | ★★★★★ Peak | Dry, calm north/west | Highest prices; book 4–5 months early |
| May–June | ★☆☆☆☆ Lowest | Transition, good value | Best overall value for most travelers |
| July–August | ★★☆☆☆ Low | Wetter, windier | Deep discounts, excellent diving |
| September–October | ★☆☆☆☆ Lowest | Shoulder, improving | Another prime value window |
| November | ★★★☆☆ Rising | Transition to dry | Good from Gulf, prices climbing |
Because capacity is limited and demand is highly seasonal, long-haul fares to SEZ reward early booking for peak months. Qatar and Emirates protect high-season inventory aggressively.
For May–June and September–October you can sometimes wait until 8–12 weeks out and still find excellent fares, especially when Gulf carriers run promotions.
Direct long-haul to SEZ is extremely limited. Almost all travelers connect via Doha, Dubai, or a secondary African/Asian hub.
Qatar via DOH and Emirates via DXB are the primary and most reliable options with direct SEZ flights. Turkish via IST is competitive from Eastern Europe. Ethiopian via ADD can be the cheapest but has longer total journey time.
Via DOH or DXB. From Australia, SIN or DXB + connection is typical. Total journey times are long (18–26h+); shoulder months make the price more palatable.
Ethiopian from many African capitals via ADD, Qatar/Emirates from Gulf, Kenya Airways from Nairobi. These are often the most affordable routes into SEZ.
Via SIN, DXB or DOH. Air Seychelles and some partners offer connections from major Asian hubs in season.
Some engines hide SEZ behind “Seychelles”. Always use the airport code to see every airline serving the islands.
Midweek departures on Qatar and Emirates from Europe average 10–20% less. Shifting by 4 days often moves you into a lower fare class.
Run parallel searches on all four hubs. Ethiopian via ADD is frequently the cheapest; Qatar/Emirates win on time and product.
Seaplane and domestic flight inventory is limited. Lock in SEZ–Praslin or seaplane to La Digue when you book the long-haul leg.
These shoulder months have the lowest long-haul fares and many resorts offer 30–50% lower rates. Perfect for divers and nature travelers.
If budget is tight, fly in shoulder, stay on Mahe (Anse Royale, Beau Vallon) and skip the expensive seaplane to outer islands on the first visit.
Gulf carriers release promotional inventory for May–Jun and Sep–Oct 8–12 weeks before departure. Pounce when the sale hits.
Seychelles is an expensive destination even on a “cheap” fare because of inter-island transfers and resort pricing. Factor everything before you commit.
| Cost component | Budget scenario | Mid-range | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roundtrip airfare (Europe) | $620–850 (shoulder, Gulf) | $920–1,250 (shoulder / early peak) | $1,600+ (Dec–Mar peak) |
| Inter-island (Praslin + La Digue, pp) | $120–200 (ferry + domestic mix) | $280–450 (mix seaplane + ferry) | $550+ (mostly seaplane) |
| SEZ ground transfers (roundtrip) | $25–45 | $50–80 | $100+ |
| Estimated total (ex-hotel) | $780–1,100 | $1,280–1,800 | $2,300+ |
Most nationalities receive 30 days visa-free entry on arrival for tourism. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned departure from Seychelles. A return or onward ticket is technically required.

May–June and September–October are the lowest fare months. Shoulder travel combines the best value on airfare with good diving and nature conditions.
Yes. Seychelles International (SEZ) on Mahe is the sole international gateway. All other islands require a domestic flight, seaplane or ferry from Mahe.
3–5 months for December–April. 2–3 months (sometimes 8–12 weeks on sales) for shoulder months. Early booking is essential for peak dry season.
Doha (DOH) on Qatar and Dubai (DXB) on Emirates are the primary direct options and usually the best balance of price and journey time. Turkish via IST and Ethiopian via ADD can be cheaper alternatives.
