Zayed International Airport (AUH) Terminal A — opened November 2023
Terminal A offers several solid options for catching sleep during a long AUH layover, ranging from budget-friendly pods to a full-service airport hotel.
Terminal A is exceptionally modern — universal power outlets and USB-C/USB-A charging ports are built into virtually every seating bank, gate area, and dining table. The UAE uses UK Type G plugs, but universal adapters are widely available.
With a valid UAE visa or visa-free entry, you can visit one of the world's most stunning landmarks:
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque — just 20 minutes from AUH by taxi
Visa-on-Arrival: Citizens of the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, and many other countries receive a free 30-day or 90-day UAE visa on arrival at passport control.
Abu Dhabi city centre — approximately 30 minutes from AUH
Do not leave the airport unless your layover is at least 6 to 8 hours.
Checked Bags: Etihad Airways typically through-checks luggage to your final destination. No need to reclaim at AUH.
If you stay airside in the international transit zone, no visa is required. To leave the airport, most Western and GCC passport holders receive a free UAE visa on arrival.
Yes, Terminal A operates 24/7. Sleep pods, lounges, duty-free shops, and dining remain open throughout the night.
A free inter-terminal shuttle bus runs between Terminal A and Terminal 1 every 10–15 minutes, 24 hours a day. Follow the signage to the shuttle pick-up zones.
